NEW | CAM assists veterans to overcome known issues arising from career transition from uniformed service, whether recent or distant. Developed following eight years of vocational and peer-reviewed university research, NEW | CAM is a fresh Australian-designed package with wellbeing and resilience benefits including confidence building, increasing self-expression, gaining or regaining skills, improving social communications and reducing isolation.

Due to the pace and mission-focus of uniformed service the realisation of the benefits to self-care from creativity is a connection often blurred for veterans, and lost in the processes and decisions taken when departing the uniform. With NEW | CAM, the nurturing environment to empower their wellbeing brings self-care back into focus with structured, meaningful and successful outcomes through expert artist-led tuition in the creative engagement pursuits of creative writing, music and visual arts.
NEW | CAM is designed for partnering with veteran wellbeing focused Ex-Service Organisations, Government and Non-Government Organisations, and Charities who, with government or corporate sponsorship funding, seek world-standard experience and mentoring in the creation of positive impacts on veterans, their families, workplaces, communities and society.

About NEW | CAM
Dr. Geoff Grey enlisted into the Australian Army in January 1981 and spent his entire career working in arts-based and arts-related postings, paralleled with an equally immersed life in non-military creative community. Among his many accolades he was awarded the Conspicuous Service Medal in the Australian Honours List of January 1998, and an Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Gold Record in 2008.
Dr Grey is an Adjunct Associate Professor with the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research at the University of Canberra. His doctoral thesis analysed the impacts, benefits, challenges and outputs of creative engagement for wounded, injured and ill military personnel. Current research is focussed on delivering portable, tactile creative opportunities to deployed forces and exploring practical, engaging creativity-based activities for all in uniform.
Geoff’s own deployment history is a significant factor regarding his approach to developing NEW | CAM creativity concepts for veterans and first responders. Entertainment shows he produced for peace monitors in Bougainville also built provincial trust in the mission with local communities. Similar effects were experienced on operations in Timor Leste and the Solomon Islands, enhanced through adding meaningful cultural exchanges with local artists to create two-way engagement. The major legacy effect of these deployment experiences is the solid realisation that sharing creativity, rather than simply delivering it, has a direct humanitarian multiplying effect, with positive wellbeing impacts for all involved.
